Background
In the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) a topical 5% minoxidil solution has been studied as an alternative treatment. However, the clinical significance of this finding remains unclear. We investigated the efficacy and safety of minoxidil in male patients with androgenetic alopecia.
Methods
A double-blind randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel group, open-labeled study was conducted in patients with male pattern baldness. Patients were randomized to receive oral minoxidil 0.2% or placebo daily for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, patients completed a baseline assessment. Results from baseline examinations were recorded. Results

The patients were randomly assigned to treatment group (n = 56) or placebo (n = 26).
